Dr. Moody wanted to walk across Glenside
and part of Montgomery County with his friends from the
Copper Beech Elementary School. He can walk
exactly one mile in 12 minutes. How long would it
take Dr. Moody to walk 18 and
½
miles?
Student Answer:
222 minutes
12 x 18 = 216
(12 minutes
times 18 miles)
216 + 6 =
222 minutes
I used 6
minutes because it is half of 12 minutes and Moody
wanted to walk half a mile, too. |
Happy Birthday, Oleg.
Yes, Dr. Moody’s nephew is one year older and the good
doctor is befuddled by the choices he must make between
wrapping papers and ribbons. He has three
different colors of ribbon and two different colors of
wrapping paper. How many different ways can he
wrap the gift? For extra credit, what would the
perfect color combination be for Oleg’s present?
Student Answer: 3 x 2 = 6
There are 3 kinds of ribbons and two kinds of paper,
therefore, 3 times 2 equals 6.
Extra Credit: red wrapping paper and a gold ribbon
