Family & Consumer Science Department
The Department of Family and Consumer
Sciences curriculum allows students to develop practical life skills. Courses
focus on personal development and wellness, nutrition and food preparation,
consumer awareness, employability, and community service. Concepts such as
problem solving, decision-making, communication skills, family relationships,
issues of parenting, healthy food choices, and consumer decisions are all
addressed in this curriculum. Laboratory experiences offer opportunities for
students to learn kitchen safety, kitchen math, and safe food handling. The
course also highlights peer pressure resistance and character building.
An elective course in family and consumer sciences is available to seventh,
eighth and ninth grade students.
