Description
IMAGINE – I’m A Girl,
Intelligent, Noble, and Educated
is a sister program to the AJHS
V.I.B.E. (Voices
Involved in promoting
Black Excellence) group for
boys. It began in 2007 and has
since expanded to the high school
and the elementary schools, where
IMAGINE leaders run workshops for
4th, 5th and 6th graders. The
purpose of the group is to provide
African American girls with a forum
to self-advocate, improve self-image
and to generally enrich their lives.
We hope to assist them in embracing
their talents and goals, as well as
to address issues that may interfere
with optimal success in the academic
environment.
The
focus topics include self-image,
self-confidence, resisting peer
pressure and academic excellence –
with an emphasis on addressing
social issues that interfere with
performance. The members participate
in discussion groups, attend events,
and have opportunities to be exposed
to positive role models and to
become ones as well.
