NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY. IT PERTAINS TO MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY. PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR PARENTS/ GUARDIANS.

There is no 7th grade membership for the National Junior Honor Society. Students will be eligible based on 7th grade (or 8th grade) performance.  Applications are sent home in late August to eligible students. Selection results are sent via mail in early October.

Requirements for 8th and 9th grade Honor Society:

Students need a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better at the end of the school year.  You need school-sponsored activities that total at least four (4) points, and you need an excellent faculty rating in citizenship, character, and service. Please see Mrs. Gates in room 134 if you have any questions about NJHS.

List of AJHS Activities

The following clubs and activities are available to AJHS students. The points indicated are to be used by sponsors of these activities to determine eligibility for membership in the NJHS. Points are not awarded simply for membership in these activities, but are awarded on the basis of level of participation as determined by the club sponsors. Point values are determined by the number of hours each activity meets beyond the school day.

Full participation for the duration of the activity or sport is required to earn the 1, 2, or 3 possible points.  For 1-point activities, no points will be given for less than full participation. For 2 or 3 point activities, the sponsor or coach will decide on points that have been earned. Students should learn from their activity sponsor or coach the requirements for “full participation”.
