The Rydal Library serves to provide a wide range of materials for staff and students including both print and non-print materials. Presently, the library contains more than 20,000 such items for use. The library also allows access to a wide selection of networked encyclopedias and databases available to assist your children with research across the curriculum.   This library is host to 656 patrons this 2011-2012 school year, with an average daily circulation of nearly 150 books!

The Library contains 12 computers for student use, as well as one black and white and one laser color printer, and one scanner/copier.  Here are just a few of the databases available for students to use here in the library:

  • World Book Online
  • Noodle Tools
  • Enchanted Learning
  • Tumblebooks Library
  • Ebsco Novelist
  • Google Earth
  • Audacity
  • Windows Movie Maker
  • Photostory 3

The goal of the School Library Media Center at Rydal is to implement, enrich and support the educational programs of the school.   Librarians, Mrs. Christine Campoli and Mrs. MaryAlice Briggs-Dicker, encourage students to read for pleasure, as well as teach information literacy.  Weekly library lessons include:

  • Locating books that match student interest and reading level
  • Evaluating online resources for research
  • Creating works cited using MLA format
  • Taking notes and synthesizing information for research
  • Digital Booktalks
  • Author Studies
  • Creating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint and  Photostory
  • Creating spreadsheets using Excel
  • Enjoying fiction and non-fiction books
  • In October we launched The Accelerated Reader Program,   available to all students in grades 3 through 6. This program is designed to encourage students to read with increased comprehension.  Students have access to the program here in the library during their class library time, as well as at the end of each school day.

In May, 3 teams from Rydal competed in the Montgomery County Reading Olympics held at Cheltenham High School.  All 3 teams received ribbons for their outstanding performance!

    Congratulations!
