Bird Protection Services
The elementary school's student council
gets some signage for the geese
Old Welsh Road can be a dangerous place …
for geese.
That was the thought behind Willow Hill
Elementary School Student Council’s most recent community service
project.
The council helped organize the
installation of two goose-crossing signs on Old Welsh Road next to
Crestmont Park and across from the Cheesecake Factory restaurant
at the mall. Well — the signs don’t say “goose-crossing,” it’s
just a silhouette of a bird against a yellow sign … but you know
the ones.
Members of the student council,
wearing knit hats and gloves, walked from their school over to the
park this morning and helped install one of the signs with the
help of the Abington Public Works Department.

Willow Hill Elementary 'Reads-In'
The first floor hallways are filled as the
school participates in the 23rd National African American Read-In
Chain.

Joyce Szayna, the reading specialist at
Willow Hill Elementary School, picked up the microphone to the
school’s PA system at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday in the school’s
office.
It was time to fill the hallways.
Szayna was
letting every student know that it was time for the 23rd African
American Read-In Chain; Willow Hill has been a link in the chain
for five years.
The idea is simple: The fourth through
sixth graders read to the younger students as they all sit in the
hallway of the school.

2011-2012: Willow Hill Handbook
The
vision of Willow Hill Elementary School is to facilitate a
challenging, standards-based educational system wherein all
students who enter our learning environment leave to continue
their academic path having acquired the skills and knowledge
necessary to complete proficient or advanced work on grade
level. In partnership with families and community, we will
create a stimulating atmosphere in which strengths are enriched;
deficiencies are addressed; new concepts are introduced; strong,
compassionate character is developed; and all children are
connected, accepted, and valued. Relationships among staff,
students, and families are enhanced through actions of mutual
respect, cooperation, and understanding.
This year's version of the
handbook is now available for download. This is an
essential document for parents. A review of this document
will allow parents to fully understand expectations set forth
for students. Parents will have an firm foundation of how
they can best empower their children to excel in the
coming school year. Please take time to familiarize yourself
with the valuable information contained within.
