Beams, bricks, blocks, and boards. All of the pieces are falling into place in three main construction areas of Abington Senior High School: the renovated and expanded administrative area and main entrance; the Stephen A. Schwarzman Center for Science and Technology; and the Bobby Bryant Athletic Center. See the photos below for some of the progress that occurred this past summer and into the early fall.

New drone footage from July 11th shows the latest progress on the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations project. It’s hard to believe that just last summer, the classroom addition was not much more than a frame of steel beams. The drone takes you into the second floor of what will be the Stephen A. Schwarzman Center for Science and Technology, and provides a brief peek into some of the classrooms that line the main corridor. Some of the walls have even already received a coat of paint.

Drone footage published in the last blog post highlighted some of the recent updates in the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations Project, and the below photos also capture the latest progress.

Interior photos of the main hallway (across from the library), which will be home to the expanded area for the Counseling Department. These photos were taken just prior to the closure of schools and the suspension of construction in March.

While schools in Pennsylvania were closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after a temporary hiatus, the Governor and Pennsylvania Department of Education gave clearance for critical public school construction projects to continue during the spring — which included the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations Project. These operations were given permission to resume as long as decisions appropriately balanced public health and safety, while ensuring the continued safety of critical infrastructure.

In consultation with Abington School District’s project management firm, SiteLogIQ, construction was able to safety resume at Abington Senior High School. The various construction teams working on the project were willing to return and had safety plans in place to do so, as required by the Montgomery County Department of Health. These plans included the submission of a schedule of work, in addition to mitigation measures in order to protect workers and the public.

To see the progress that has been completed since the last blog update in March, watch the following drone footage for a side-by-side comparison.

Did you know? Abington Senior High School added a Drone Club earlier this school year, following a new policy from the Board of School Directors regarding the use and operation of the equipment on school property. One of the first flights of the drone in early March at ASHS included a flyover of the Additions and Renovations to Abington Senior High School, showcasing the classroom addition and construction of the administrative wing. Watch below.
