ASHS Additions and Renovations Blog Posts

June 4, 2019

Recent weeks in the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations Project have brought an important step: laying the foundation of the Senior High addition. The photos above show the progression of the placement of rebar, pouring of the concrete footing, laying of the concrete block foundation wall, and finally, the finished product of the back-filled foundation wall with interior insulation.

From there, there was nowhere to go but up! The photo below shows the close-to-complete retaining wall to provide a sense of its size. This wall will eventually be underground, as two stories of the addition will be built on top of this structure (meaning the top of the wall will be the first-floor elevation). On the Highland Avenue side of this wall is where the mechanical and electric utility rooms will be housed, which will power the entire Senior High building.

The previous blog post brought you an image of the construction site where the new Center for Science and Technology will be built, but now check out the renovation work that is being done to the administrative wing of Abington Senior High School. You can hardly recognize that this area, just a little over a month ago, was the main office entrance. Administrators and guidance counselors were moved out over the spring recess to make way for the construction, and as you can see, a lot of demolition has taken place since then.

The Abington Senior High School construction site as of May 2019.

Welcome to the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations Blog! The purpose of this site is to provide Abington School District staff, students, parents/guardians and community members with a resource where they can find the latest information and developments regarding the additions and renovations to Abington Senior High School.

Throughout the upcoming years that this project will continue, our plan is to provide status and progress updates, inform the school community of any important messages about the construction (such as new traffic patterns), and also use the site as a way to showcase the exciting and impressive details that go along with such a project, including the incorporation of innovation labs, new technologies and the long-awaited arrival of air conditioning! It is hard to believe we are already six months into the project, for which we broke ground in early November, though it is easy to tell from the construction site that a lot has happened in that timeframe.

If you are a Senior High School parent/guardian who was unable to attend the April PTO meeting at which we provided an update on summer plans for the construction, you can view the presentation here.

A lot of planning went into the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations project, and we are very much looking forward to the great things it will do for the students of the Abington School District. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at
