Dear Abington School District Community,
We are pleased and excited that the Additions and Renovations to Abington Senior High School project is moving along nicely. I write to share important logistical information that will impact traffic around Abington Senior High School. As was presented via an orientation at the October 15, 2019, meeting of the Abington School District Board of School Directors, upcoming construction as part of the Abington Senior High School Additions and Renovations project will alter traffic patterns along a portion of the Senior High campus due to the expansion and renovation of the athletic wing. Mainly, it will require the closure of the road that lies between the stadium and gymnasium, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. At all other days and times, the road will be open to one-way traffic going uphill (in the direction toward Abington Junior High School).
Click here for a map delineating the traffic patterns and closure times for vehicles. It is important to note that for safety reasons, this route will be closed to pedestrian traffic at all times. We are working with the Abington School District Transportation Department to adjust bus routes, as needed. As this closure will also impact routes for students who walk to the secondary schools’ campus, a separate communication from the Transportation Department will be sent to those individuals outlining alternative plans. Parent pick-up/drop-off locations will remain unchanged.
Please know that we are working with Abington Township officials to ensure all necessary stakeholders are aware of these changes, including emergency personnel.
These changes will be implemented starting, Wednesday, November 6, 2019, and will remain in effect until the completion of the gymnasium expansion, anticipated for the summer of 2020. Throughout the remainder of the school year, we will continue to communicate any changes as needed, and ask that you allow extra time to navigate campus and/or plan alternate routes accordingly.
As always, please contact Abington Senior High School Principal, Mr. Angelo Berrios, with any questions, and subscribe to our ASHS Additions & Renovations Blog if you would like to be notified of any news or updates related to the construction.
We thank you for your continued patience and understanding throughout the Additions and Renovations project. The end result will be a reimagined Abington Senior High School, which will benefit every student in the Abington School District.
