Reading is an essential life skill and the basic tool required in our global society. With instruction and practice, students can improve their reading skills. At the high school, a variety of reading courses is offered. These reading courses emphasize the following areas: comprehension, vocabulary development, study techniques, research, test-taking, and reading for pleasure. All reading courses are aligned to the Pennsylvania Keystone Literature standards. Students read from a variety of genres including novels, short stories, plays, essays, speeches and online database articles, as well as self-selected materials. Reading strategies that develop students critical thinking and analytical skills are emphasized.
