Dear Willow Hill Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back! Summer vacations provide time for rest and relaxation. I hope that your children have been reading, practicing their mathematics, and are ready for the start of another productive year at Willow Hill Elementary School.
As I prepare for my twelfth year as principal of the most dynamic and culturally diverse elementary school in the Abington School District, I am proud of our continuous progress. This progress, in part, is the result of our shared vision, which is deeply rooted in a culture and climate comprised of high expectations for teaching and learning, as well as equitable and consistent opportunities for children to progress and excel. However, we must not allow success to breed complacency, but rather continue to push forward to achieve greater success.
As parents, you are an integral part of your child’s academic development. Your engagement is essential; therefore, I challenge you to become active participants in our learning community. Please log on to our website at https://www.abington.k12.pa.us/willowhill/ and then click on the PTO link to view opportunities to get involved. For additional volunteer opportunities, please contact your child’s teacher or the main office at 215.657.3800.
Please refer to the school district’s website at https://www.abington.k12.pa.us/ regarding transportation information. Click on the link titled “Information To Access Student Transportation Information” under the Information section. Please be certain to review this information periodically as routes may change. In addition, an important piece of information is included in this mailing, the Transportation authorization form. Please complete this form and return it to your child’s teacher on the first day of school.
Your child’s teacher and classroom assignment are indicated at the top of this letter. Please share this information with your child so he/she will report to the correct classroom on the first day of school. The staff and I worked extremely hard to equitably balance the classes to afford everyone the opportunity to learn in an engaging, stimulating, and nurturing environment. Also, noted on the label is your child’s identification number. This number will be needed for your child to access his/her district’s network (computer) account as well as to purchase breakfast and/or lunch. Please share and review this number with your child so that he/she is prepared accordingly.
The 2019-2020 Willow Hill Elementary School Handbook is posted on the homepage of our website. All students will receive a copy no later than Friday, September 6. Please take the time to review this handbook with your child. It provides very specific information with regard to school policies and daily procedures. I ask that you and your child sign and return the final page of the handbook to his/her classroom teacher no later than Friday, September 13, 2019.
In conclusion, you are reminded that the first student day is Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Children may begin arriving at 8:30 a.m. To ensure the safety of your children and our students, you are reminded that parking is not allowed along the drop off circle parallel to the primary playground or the bus lane parallel to the main office. All classroom teachers will be positioned on the black top with a sign indicating their name and grade level assignment.
